On January 19th 2018 a meeting was held at the premises of the Ministry of Defense and Security, a briefing session regarding the mechanism to combat corruption conducted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC) to the Migration Service officer. The Ministry of Defense and Security Mr. José Agostinho Sequeira Somotxo presided at the opening ceremony, which was attended by the General Director of the Migration Service, Mr. Boavida Ribeiro. The purpose of the clarification action was to analyze, detect and correct conduct or procedures concerning the irregular use of state resources, particularly in the Ministry of Defense and Security. The misuse of these resources negatively influences the lives of the people and undermines the dignity of the State, as well as demining moral integrity in the aspect of good governance .

On January 30th 2018, the Directorate General of the Migration Service (DGSM) began the opening session of the Criminal Investigation training course on Human Trafficking, sponsored by the European Union under the MIEUX II program and given by the by Union European experts, namely from the Portuguese Immigration Service and the UK Police. For this training, 20 elements of the Migration Services were selected. The opening session was presided by the Director General of the Migration Service, Assistant Superintendent Boavida Ribeiro and the representative of the European Union in Timor-Leste Mr. Luis Godinho. The Director General of the Migration Service at the opening session of the training took the opportunity to thank the European Union and the training experts for the implementation of this training Action through the MIEUX program, which will contribute to increase the knowledge and skill of the elements of the Migration Service in the area of criminal investigation and borders control in order to prevent and combat the crime of human beings trafficking. He also expressed the wish that European Union would continue to support Timor-Leste through MIEUX II or other programs in the future. To the trainees he asked to take full advantage of the knowledge transmitted by the experts so that they could be enabled to detect possible victims and those responsible for the crime of human trafficking and how to conduct prosecutions of criminal investigation in that area.

On February 1st, 2018, the General Direction of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Defense and Security was present at the closing session of the Training of Trainers (TOT) on Human trafficking given by experts from the European Union within the framework of the EU MIEUX II program was held for four (4) days, being the audience target, 10 employees of Migration Service. The closing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defense and Security in Vila-Verde, Dili, and was attended by Deputy Director General Ricardo K. Pade and the Representative of the European Union Delegation in Timor-Leste. In the wrap-up speech, the Deputy Director General of Migration Service, thanked, on behalf of the Director General, to the experts and to the representative of the European Union for the MIEUX II program which began in 2016, stressing the importance of this training, that will contribute to the training of Migration Service element future trainers in the field of trafficking in human beings. He also urged the participants of this Training of Trainers program that the information and knowledge acquired can be applied in the future and that they could become trainers in this area. .

Ceremony of Handing Over Task To The Newly Appointed Director General of Migration Services

On November 5th 2020, Superintendent Chief of Police, Agustinho Gomes da Silva, Lic. CSH., officially handed over the office of General Directorate of Migration Service to Superintendent Assistant Police Luis Soares Bareto, Lic. Dir., MH. His Excellency Vice Minister of Interior, Antonio Armindo,Lic. CSH., expresses his gratitute to the well-done performance and dedication of the former Director General. At the same time, His Excellency congratulate and encourage the newly appionted Director General to continue the duty that is entrusted to him.
